Two internationally renowned superstars will join Shaggy on stage during his annual charity concert near the end of this year.
American hip-hop superstar and former Fugees member, Lauryn Hill as well as Grammy-Winning R&B singer, Ne-Yo will headline Shaggy and Friends 2011; a concert held yearly to raise money for the Bustamante Hospital for Children in Kingston. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday December 30 at Jamaica House.
Hill and Ne-Yo join Deniece Williams as the international acts on the Shaggy and Friends line up card. Local artistes for the show include Reggae superstars Stephen Marley, Chino Romain Virgo and Half Pint as well as Dancehall artiste such as Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn and Assassin o/c Agent Sasco. Additionally, the benefit concert will feature prominent soca couple, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons from Trinidad.
Regarding the ability to get Hill and Ne-Yo to agree to perform at his event, Shaggy intimated that it didn’t take much effort once he mentioned the cause.
“Ne-Yo was a real no-brainer, once I mentioned it, he was on board. Lauryn Hill and I were on tour in Australia two months ago and we began discussing it then. Deniece Williams is also excited about performing for Jamaicans,” Shaggy said.
Proceeds from this years’ edition of Shaggy and Friends 2011 will go towards furnishing the new cardiac centre and intensive care unit at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, the only paediatric hospital in Jamaica. Furthermore, Shaggy’s foundation will partner with Chain of Hope, a group of volunteer doctors and nurses who perform surgeries on children with heart disease.
Since the show’s inception in January 2009, the Shaggy and Friends Make A Difference foundation raised JA$57 million in donations. Sponsors for the event such as Scotiabank, KFC and LIME have made donations of over JA$13 million collectively ahead of this year’s staging.
Tickets for the Shaggy and Friends 2011 concert are as follows: Platinum, JA$25,000, Gold, JA$10,000 and Silver JA$5,000.
